FBC Men’s Ministry
“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another”
“Men do not become men in the company of women; we become men in the company of other men.”
-- From Every Man, God’s Man by Arterburn, Wendorf, & Luck
As Christian men, we were never intended to go it alone. We were designed by our Creator to connect with other Christian men – to encourage, support, and inspire each other in the adventures we live, through the battles we fight, and for the others we serve.
“And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him.
A cord of three strands cannot be broken.”
With these ideas in mind, the FBC Garland Men’s Ministry will empower and equip men through…
Missions and outreach activities
Ministries to meet the physical needs of others
Support programs for families and youth
Teaching and education, focused on men’s needs
The FBC Men’s Ministry is led by the Men’s Ministry Council. If you have input, feedback, or other information for the Council, simply click on the Council member's name below to send an e-mail.
Men's Outdoor Fellowship
To promote Christian outreach and fellowship through various activities for men with similar interest in the outdoors.
The FBC Garland Men's Outdoor Fellowship will involve men and boys in hunting and fishing experiences of various kinds. Hunters and fishermen of all ages and all skill levels will be invited to participate. You don't have to be a FBC Garland church member to participate. Events will be varied based on required skill level and cost. There will be something for the novice and the expert over time.

Events & Activities
In partnership with Man in the Mirror Ministries, we have entered a long-term commitment to helping men on their "Journey Toward Biblical Manhood." This emphasis includes many different components, including quarterly weekend seminars, weekly Tuesday night Bible studies, and small group interaction to encourage men in their walk with God.
The first step in the Journey was a weekend seminar on September 6-7, 2013. The seminar title was "Success That Matters" and focused on the following four areas:
- Finding the Purpose of Your Life
- Finding Respect and Honor at Home
- Finding a New Best Friend in Your Wife
- Finding a Deeper Personal Relationship With God
Does it ever feel like you're never going to be "good" enough? Men often get caught in the performance trap. We can't escape our own and others' expectations. It's easy to find ourselves living a life of obligation, quiet frustration and futility.
True Christianity is not about "acting good." God offers more than behavior modification. He offers heart transformation! Our next weekend seminar will show you how God rewires men's hearts to build a passionate faith.
The "next step" in the Journey is the "Change Your World" men's retreat. This retreat will be September 5 -6, 2014 in Waxahachie, TX. The men's follow-up study to the retreat will focus on the following four areas:
- From Performance to Grace
- From Idols to "Spirit and Truth"
- From Self-Sufficiency to Faithful Dependence
- Rewired for Biblical Manhood

October Men’s Breakfast & Workday Saturday, October 4 8-9 am
Author, speaker, and business professional, Stu Schlakman, is our speaker. In business, Schlackman uses his “Four People You Should Know” Personality Perspectives Process to help companies build high performance teams and increase sales through understanding the four different personality styles. Spiritually, he has a fascinating story of coming from a traditional Jewish family and converting to Christianity. Tickets are $5 each and go on sale September 14 in the Atrium and through the church office.
Our semi-annual workday will follow the workday, doing projects for our church’s widows and widowers.
2015 Super Bowl Breakfast Saturday, January 31 8-9 am
Our speaker for the the 2015 Super Bowl Breakfast will be Dr. Nate Hearne. Before retiring, Dr. Hearne was very active in Texas High School sports, most notably as an assistant coach on the famous Permian High School team featured in the 2004 hit movie, Friday Night Lights. He has also been an executive in the DFW Chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and currently serves as President (and Founder) of the Euless Loaves and Fishes Foundation.
$5 tickets go on sale January 11 in the Atrium and through the church office.
Spring & Fall (annually)
October 4, 2014 is our next Workday.
Workdays begin immediately following the Men's Breakfasts on scheduled dates (normally in April & October). These workdays provide men in the church with the opportunity to do various jobs to assist our widows, widowers, and single moms - jobs like yardwork, light construction and plumbing, and other "handyman" tasks.
